The Grande Cascade circuit
CIRCUIT 8
Departure: Col de Bonnefontaine
Take the road to Blancfaing, when you get close to it, take the path on your right and follow it to the road to Infays which you follow to the right. When you are about 50m from the departmental road, take the path on the left which goes down towards the forest and follow it, trusting the blue rings, to the Grande Cascade.
1. The setting is charming, around the inn, with the pond, the meadows and the forest. The Grande Cascade is one of the most impressive falls in the Vosges. The Scouet tumbles from a height of 32m in 3 jumps. Be very careful, the stones are slippery and accidents due to carelessness are frequent. Climb up the scree to the height of the fall and turn left onto the path, after 200m, turn right to the Scouet, cross the wooden bridge and turn left again, cross the stream again on the large granite blocks, follow it for about 400m and climb the path on your left. 400m further, turn left, another 250m, another fork on the right and you arrive on the plateau.
2. From there you have a clear view of Bonnefontaine and the Charme de l'Ormont. The climb is over! All you have to do is follow the path through fields, meadows and woods. At the end of it, turn left.
3. At the height of Caillou, you have a superb view of the valley, it is worth the trip in itself: first the village, then the Beillard valley, the heights of Gérardmer, the ski slopes of Mauselaine and at the very bottom the summit of Hohneck with the hotel which dominates it. All you have to do now is return to your starting point.
